The best time for a boat tour in Cartagena is during the dry season: December through April. Sea conditions are calm, visibility is excellent for snorkeling, and the water temperature hovers around 28°C (82°F). June through August is also a popular time, though brief afternoon rains can occur. The Rosario Islands and Barú are most accessible and beautiful during these peak periods.

A Rosario Islands day trip typically departs from Cartagena's marina and takes 45–60 minutes by speedboat or 90 minutes by catamaran.
